Finipil Antiseptic Cream

Cooling aftercare for skin that was just waxed, shaved or threaded

Finipil started in salons as the last step after hair removal, and plenty of people now keep a tube by the shower. It cools freshly treated skin, protects small nicks with 0.2% benzethonium chloride and moisturizes without clogging pores, which helps keep razor bumps and ingrown hairs from taking over the week after a wax.

  • 0.2% benzethonium chloride
  • Noncomedogenic
  • Made in the USA

Which Finipil Is Right for You

You wax or shave at home

Pick: Lait 50, 1.5 oz

Start here. One tube covers a personal routine, from the first wax through the weeks of regrowth.

  • Bikini line, Brazilian, underarms and legs
  • Daily between appointments, not just on wax day
  • Under 3.4 oz, so it goes in a carry-on
  • A thin layer is the right amount

You treat clients

Pick: Pro/Elec, 8 oz

Waxing studios, sugaring rooms and electrologists use the pump bottle as the last step of the service.

  • Pump dispensing for back-to-back appointments
  • Made for Nufree and electrolysis aftercare
  • Labeled for professional use only
  • Clients can take Lait 50 home for daily care

You shave your face or body

Pick: Men Only, 8 oz

Built for frequent shaving, where bumps along the neck and beard line keep coming back.

  • Jawline, neck and the edge of the beard
  • Chest, back and shoulders after body grooming
  • Cools razor burn without an alcohol sting
  • Also comes as a 4 oz Made For Men tube

All three follow the same idea: an antiseptic plus cooling moisture. Packaging, labeled directions and some ingredients differ, so follow the label on the one you buy.

Why Finipil Belongs in Your Hair Removal Routine

Cools on contact

Menthyl lactate gives a cold, fresh feeling that settles the heat and tightness right after a wax or a close shave. It is a gentler relative of menthol, so the cooling comes without the burn an alcohol after-shave can cause on fresh skin.

An antiseptic, not just a lotion

Benzethonium chloride 0.2% is an over-the-counter antiseptic that helps prevent bacterial contamination in minor cuts and scrapes. Freshly waxed or shaved skin usually has a few tiny nicks you cannot see, which is exactly where that matters.

Light and noncomedogenic

The cream moisturizes without leaving an oily coat, and it is formulated not to clog pores. That counts on the bikini line and underarms, where a heavy balm plus tight clothes and sweat is a recipe for more bumps.

Salon roots, made in the USA

Equibal Labs created Finipil as the aftercare for its Nufree hair removal system, and estheticians have used it after professional treatments for years. It is still manufactured in the United States.

What’s in Finipil Cream

IngredientRoleWhat it means for your skin
Benzethonium chloride 0.2%Antiseptic. The listed active ingredientHelps protect minor nicks and scrapes from bacterial contamination
Menthyl lactateCooling agentThe cold feeling you notice right after applying. Milder than straight menthol
BisabololSoothingOriginally from chamomile and common in calming skin care

  • No exfoliating acids. The label warns against using Finipil together with acid products, so keep glycolic or salicylic ingrown-hair pads off the same area at the same time.
  • Not an alcohol splash. The cooling comes from menthyl lactate, which is why it does not burn on a fresh wax the way a classic after-shave can.
  • Formulas differ by product. Pro/Elec and the men’s line do not share every ingredient with Lait 50, so the Drug Facts and ingredient panel on your package is the list that counts.
  • The formula is patented under U.S. Patent No. 8,603,550.

Finipil for Every Hair Removal Method

Waxing and sugaring

The classic use

When
Right after, then daily
Areas
Bikini, Brazilian, underarms, legs
Go easy on
Heat and tight clothes for 24 hours

Wax pulls hair from the root and leaves the skin warm and sensitive. A thin layer straight away takes the heat out, and daily use while hair grows back keeps the surface soft. Works after hard wax, soft wax and sugaring on external skin.

Shaving

Instead of an after-shave balm

When
After rinsing off shave cream
Areas
Face, neck, legs, underarms, bikini
Go easy on
Passing over the same spot twice

Use it wherever you would use an after-shave balm. For bumps that keep coming back on the neck, pair it with a sharp blade, light pressure and shaving in the direction of growth. Finipil handles the skin side. Technique handles the rest.

Threading

Brows and upper lip

When
Right after the session
Areas
Brows, upper lip, chin
Go easy on
Anywhere near the eyes

Threading can leave small patches of redness on the face. A tiny amount cools them down and adds a little moisture. Keep it below the brow bone and well away from the eyes.

Electrolysis

What Pro/Elec was made for

When
After treatment, per your electrologist
Areas
Face, chin, body
Go easy on
Any small scabs. Leave them alone

Treated follicles stay sensitive for a while after a session, and the cream cools and moisturizes them. Your electrologist’s aftercare instructions come first, especially if the skin crusts slightly.

Epilating

Larger areas at once

When
After epilating
Areas
Legs and arms
Go easy on
Broken or raw skin

An epilator pulls many hairs at once, so legs and arms often turn pink afterward. Spread a thin layer over intact skin. Full legs take more cream than an upper lip, which is where the 8 oz bottles start to make sense.

Laser

Ask your clinic first

When
Only if your provider says so
Areas
As directed by the clinic
Go easy on
Adding products on your own

Finipil was not developed for laser aftercare, and freshly lasered skin can react to cooling and botanical ingredients. Follow the clinic’s instructions and check before adding anything.

  • Where it can go: face and neck, underarms, the external bikini line, legs and arms, chest and back. Some people also use it on dry hands and feet.
  • Where it should not go: the eyes, mucous membranes and internal genital areas.
  • Skin that stays red, hurts more each day, spreads or shows pus needs a doctor, not another layer of cream.

About two years ago I decided I wanted to take the plunge and start getting brazilian waxes. So I did and loved the initial results. However exactly 24 hours after getting waxed several (and I mean SEVERAL, as in they were everywhere) fluid-filled tiny white bumps appeared. They went away after about 3 or 4 days. I Googled and I talked to my aesthetician about it the next time I had an appt and she gave me some different pointers on things to do to prevent the bumps from reappearing after future waxes (it'll get better with time as your body gets used to it, make sure you don't soak in a bath, if you workout and get sweaty make sure to clean up ASAP, try not to touch the area, tea tree oil can help, coconut oil, etc etc). So I tried these things as well as other suggestions I found on Google and still, the bumps appeared, like clockwork, 24 hours after waxing. I continued to get the brazilians probably about 6 times and the bumps continued, then money got tight and I was discouraged with the bumps (and ingrown hairs) I was getting every time, so I stopped getting them for about 6-8 months. When I decided to start getting them again, I had my list of things to do on the days leading up to waxing and right before waxing and immediately after and the days following waxing and I was determined to get through it without the results being ruined by these annoying, unattractive bumps! But AGAIN, there they were, every time. My aesthetician had a baby and was gone on maternity leave for 6 weeks and while she was out I did some more research. Rewording my problem a million different ways in the Google search bar until some salon in another state had Finipil Lait 50 mentioned on their website, and then I found it on amazon. I didn't order it at first but when my lady came back from maternity leave and I had my upcoming waxing appt, I decided to give it a try (not like it's that expensive, right?) So I bought it and it came in a day or two before my appt. I showered before my appt and applied some of the Lait 50 and headed to the salon. Had my session (which btw was less painful...although maybe that was a mental thing, and I wasn't red, AT ALL when I was normally left with VERY red, swollen, inflamed skin down there), came home and put some more Lait 50 on immediately. 24 hours went by and no signs of any bumps at all. I told myself maybe the cream was just delaying them a bit and they would eventually appear bc this stuff had to be too good to be true. Another 24 hours went by, and another, and another....it's now been almost an entire month since the wax and I haven't had a SINGLE bump show up! NOT. A. ONE!! And no ingrown hairs either! This stuff truly is a miracle worker! I read some reviews who said it didn't work for them. I don't exactly know what their situation was or what they were using it for, etc, but I am SO incredibly happy I found this stuff and gave it a try!! I Apply it to the area once a day after my shower and that's it. It just works! I was worried it would burn when I put it on immediately after my waxing because the skin is so sensitive there and it has a "cooling effect" that I was concerned would end up being a "light my crotch on fire" effect instead but it really is a COOLING effect. I felt like I had a cold washcloth or something on the area for hours after application, which felt AHMAZING the days following the wax when I was usually pretty sore. I have also noticed a HUGE improvement in how long the hair is taking to grow back out! Normally after just a week or two I was having quite a bit of regrowth. So I was dealing with these awful bumps the first 3-4 days and then was only enjoying the smoothness for another week or so before I was playing the waiting game for the hair to grow out enough to get my next brazilian and start the process all over again. As I said earlier, it's been a month, and guess what? I'M STILL SMOOTH!! I have had some hairs pop up here and there over the past month that I've just plucked when noticing them, but it's been maybe 3-4 hairs a day, which is NOTHING when you think about how many are actually capable of growing down there. Anyway, I'm sorry for such a long review, but if it hadn't been for the reviews I had found I would have never tried it. And there were so few reviews available to read that I really wasn't sure it would work for me and I almost didn't try it. So I really wanted to follow up and add a review. Maybe someone else out there has had the same issue with those pesky bumps after and none of the other treatments have worked. This stuff is DEFINITELY worth trying!! I will be staying stocked up on it from now on and plan on telling my aesthetician about it the next time I see her. Maybe she'll look into it and start carrying it there too. :)

So, I want to say that this product is awesome !!!! A few years ago, I was a beginner waxer, and I went to this wax lady to get my second wax and she recommended me this product and even sold it in her store. I used it and had immediate great results. No ingrowns and smooth skin!!! Of course waxes were expensive so, I stopped and begin shaving again for the next few years. Recently, I started waxing again, but I was having bad ingrown hairs and bumps. I wasn’t sure why because I had never had that issue. I started to get discouraged, but I said I would figure it out. Maybe I wasn’t waxing right idk! So, I continued to wax, and same thing irritated skin and bad painful ingrown hairs. I researched and I saw this product pop back up, and didn’t realize this is what prevents ingrown hairs so, I bought it and immediately my skin cleared and has been smooth ever since! I have very sensitive skin and anything can cause an ingrown but I live by this product ! It’s a cooling, tingling feeling , and it brings so much comfort. I know the price is a little high for the amount but it’s worth it and it doesn’t take much. Hope this helps :)

Emery

I have been shaving "down there" for a very long time and have tried every technique and product combination there is with no luck, always got ingrown hairs and very itchy and then.....DRUM ROLE.......I tried this glorious product. I shaved as normal and applied this, after I applied it, not itchy, not dry, and the next day? Smoothest and most hydrated my hooha has ever been. I only wish there was more of the product. (Also FYI my skin is very sensitive and this didn't cause any sort of reaction)

SM

THIS IS GOLD AND SHOULD BE A LEGAL REQUIREMENT TO USE POST-WAX…!!!! Yes, -especially- for those unbelievably sensitive areas?! (Ahem the whole hoo-ha biz.) I just can’t say enough how SUPER happy I am with this antiseptic cream! Like, writing a stupidly rave review over, haha (I owe it to help my fellow woman-kind..!! ❤️) SO. I did my very first Brazilian Wax (at home(!)):…annnnnd based on most every literature piece I’d read and studied prior to starting; I ultimately expected and accepted that I would, at MINIMUM, develop one (or more!) ingrown hairs as growth returned. However, that never happened. Holy cow. I feel stupid fortunate that I ran across this product in my “research”, with another reviewer mentioning applying daily on the post-wax area (I think I did a dab for x4-5 days?) to help with or to completely eliminate those (painful/ugly!) ingrown hairs. AND— what do you know..?? It’s been nearly THREE weeks post complete Brazilian wax, and I’ve had zero issues with ingrowns. I TRULY 100% believe this product was KEY—FYI that post-waxing, the hair follicles are VERY vulnerable, in fact one usually acquires micro-tears/damage to the skin—making it an enormous vector for infection; prime breeding ground for bacteria to flourish (this being a primary reason ingrowns and infection occurs!!). By applying this, I know it helped tame bacteria from the area while healing— never letting bacteria colonize; ultimately allowing hair regrowth to come through with no pain or issues. Just…amazingly AWESOME stuff; wish it was a better known tool for waxing! Real shout out and thanks to whomever had left their review on this for post-wax—really hope my own review helps a fellow woman out there!! (PS: fragrance free after application dry-down; non-greasy, no sting, no irritation—mild moisturizing affect) Peace & Love, girlies! ✌️

Amazon Customer

This actually worked to clear up an ingrown hair in my bikini area that would not go away for months before I bought this. I’m impressed. $30 is pricy but it saved me from going to the doctors so it was worth it. I thought I’d have to have it cut out it was so stubborn to get rid of. Then bam gone in a matter of days with a few 1/2 pea size amounts of this stuff. Still have lots left. *the tube is not full though*. Kinda scammy lol but it did work and fast.

GD

I'm definitely not qualified to speak of the long-term effects of this product (see update below) such as suppression of hair growth, or even if it helps to inhibit ingrown hairs (which is what I bought it for) but I CAN attest to its value to cool and soothe a freshly-waxed/sugared Brazilian! I've never had a full Brazilian before but I have tried to shave portions of that area with little success. With shaving I've experienced almost instant painful bumps, ingrown hairs, extreme tenderness, and incessant itching. I actually only ordered this because I wandered upon it while looking for a numbing cream to do my own Brazilian with sugaring (and for facial roller-derming). It had such great reviews, and waxing/sugaring could be a horrible idea, I don't know yet, but I thought I'd give it a try. Well, I ordered some numbing cream and this, and I have to say- so far, so good!! When my nethers came back to reality after the whole ordeal, they felt cool and calm, not the pain or discomfort I was expecting (and I even had BLEEDING in a few spots). I walked around all day today and (sorry for the visual but) I'm a heavy lady and had NO discomfort! I'll update if things change but I only intend to use this cream every few days for maybe a week, if that. At least until my next self-Brazilian sugaring. Even if things get unpredictably painful when the hair grows back in, it couldn't possibly be any worse than the DAY I shave, nor worse than the day after! To be hair-free for even a few days (but I believe waxing/sugaring lasts a couple weeks) without the pain of re-growth is worth it to me. I cannot attest to this cream's ability to alleviate the pain of shaving because I gave that up years ago. My hair is both very thick and ridiculously coarse so shaving is no longer an option to an old woman who far values comfort over beauty. The reason I want the hair gone is not a thing of beauty, but for comfort. It is so ridiculously thick and coarse that it causes me great discomfort, especially during sleep or walking around. I know that's WAY more information than you need but if you're considering waxing/sugaring the whole mess out, I highly recommend a good numbing cream and this. UPDATE: Well, so much for my big idea that I would only use this occasionally after sugar-waxing! While I didn't get NEARLY as many ingrown hairs as with shaving, I did get a few. I assumed it was going to be some big ordeal as they had always been before but every time I get one, I go rub some of this on it and it goes away, almost immediately! I was only expecting some pain relief from the cooling sensation but this stuff really does heal them fast! I won't be without this cream now that I've seen what it can do. I can't say it does anything to slow hair regrowth because mine was practically all regrown (not all but probably 70% coverage, about 25% length) within three weeks but then, my hair grows really fast. I know this is gross but I have to say it: As a larger lady, I've noticed that hair in places we don't want it does serve a purpose, smell-wise. When I shaved my bikini line (and no longer had hair to wick away sweat), I had an odor that wasn't there when the hair was there. This stuff has something in it that kills the bacteria that causes that smell. I have NEVER, not once, used the bathroom and got a whiff of that nasty armpit smell from my crotch since I started using this. THAT, all by itself, is worth the outrageous price to me. UPDATE 2: Again, I have given myself a full brazillian and I'm completely amazed at how well this stuff works! If I don't use it for a few days, I get ingrown hairs, which is no longer the pain and anguish that used to mean! I'm telling you, you can go rub some of this on it, shower or not (usually not), and the pain is gone almost instantly (by the time you wash your hands and go sit down, it's gone!)! There is no smell anymore, no ornery hairs itching or pulling, and I sleep like a rock! I have scars from ingrown hairs from shaving, if that means anything. I mean, they were BAD! I think a person that prefers to shave should seriously get some of this! You'll never be without it again once you've seen the light. I never thought being hair-free could be like this. Funny thing, my mom asked me if since I'd waxed (sugar-waxed), if my pee went in every direction like it did when I shaved. I can't explain if it was the waxing or this, but no, it doesn't! (That's weird, right? Why doesn't it? I hadn't thought about it.) For all intents and purposes, THAT part couldn't know if the top or bikini line were hair-free! Maybe I scared it by ripping the hair out by the roots and it was afraid? lol

How to Use Finipil

  1. 1

    Start with clean skin

Rinse off shave cream, wax residue or after-wax oil and pat the area dry. Cream on top of leftover product does not absorb well.

  2. 2

    Use less than you think

A small amount covers more skin than you would expect. More cream does not work better, it just takes longer to sink in.

  3. 3

    Spread, do not rub

Glide it over the area with clean fingers. Freshly waxed skin does not need extra friction.

  4. 4

    Let it absorb

Give it a minute before underwear or clothes go back on. The cooling feeling keeps going after the cream disappears.

  5. 5

    Keep going between sessions

Once a day, following the label. Equibal Labs suggests applying it to damp skin after a shower, which is the easiest habit to keep.

Before you use it

  • Finipil is for external use only. Keep it out of the eyes and away from internal genital areas.
  • Do not use it at the same time as products containing acids, such as AHA or BHA ingrown-hair pads.
  • Stop using it if redness or irritation develops or gets worse. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with a healthcare professional first.

About Finipil and Equibal Labs

Finipil is made by Equibal Labs, an American skin care company Normajean Fusco founded in 1984. The company made its name in salons with Nufree, a hair removal system offered as an alternative to traditional waxing, and Finipil was created as the step that comes right after it.

Estheticians liked it enough to use it after every kind of hair removal, not only Nufree, and from there it made its way from treatment rooms to bathroom shelves. The line now covers the Lait 50 tube for home use, Pro/Elec for salons and electrologists, and a men’s range for shaving.

Equibal Labs is a woman-owned business that manufactures in the United States. Finipil’s formula is patented, and its antiseptic labeling is listed in DailyMed, the National Library of Medicine’s database of drug labels.

What makes it different from a classic after-shave is the combination: an antiseptic active, cooling that does not rely on alcohol, and a light moisturizing cream, all in one thin layer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Finipil

Finipil is an antiseptic cream that cools, soothes and moisturizes skin after hair removal. People use it after shaving, waxing, sugaring, threading and electrolysis to take the sting out of freshly treated skin. Its antiseptic active also helps prevent bacterial contamination in minor cuts, scrapes and burns, and it can be used daily as part of a grooming routine.

It helps with the irritation that goes along with them. The moisturizing cream keeps freshly treated skin comfortable, and the antiseptic helps protect tiny nicks from bacteria. What it cannot do is guarantee you will never get an ingrown hair, or pull out a hair that is already trapped under the skin. Good shaving technique and avoiding overly close shaves still matter.

Put a small amount on clean fingers and spread it gently over the treated area. A thin layer is enough. You can apply it right after hair removal on intact skin and then once a day following the label. Keep it away from the eyes, and do not use it together with products that contain acids.

Yes. Lait 50 and the men’s products are labeled for daily use. Using it between hair removal sessions keeps the skin moisturized even on days you do not shave or wax. Apply a small amount once a day as the package directs, and stop if redness or irritation shows up.

Lait 50 is the everyday version for personal use, in a 1.5 oz tube that is easy to travel with. Pro/Elec was developed for use after Nufree and electrolysis treatments and comes in salon sizes, including an 8 oz pump bottle. Both list 0.2% benzethonium chloride as the antiseptic active, but Pro/Elec is labeled for professional use.

It is Finipil’s line for men’s facial and body shaving. The cream cools and moisturizes freshly shaved skin, which helps along the beard line, the neck, the chest and other areas you groom often. It comes in a 4 oz size and an 8 oz size, and the larger one is handy for barbers and full-body grooming.

Yes, on external skin. It works on the face and along the bikini line after shaving, waxing or threading. Use a small amount and keep it away from the eyes, mucous membranes and internal genital areas. The cream is noncomedogenic, meaning it is formulated not to clog pores. If your skin is very reactive, check the ingredient list and try a small patch before covering a large area.

Lait 50 and Pro/Elec contain 0.2% benzethonium chloride, an antiseptic that helps prevent bacterial contamination in minor cuts, scrapes and burns. The men’s products are sold as antiseptic too, so check the Drug Facts on the one you buy. Finipil is marketed with a 99.999% bacterial reduction claim, but that does not mean it sterilizes skin or guarantees you will never get folliculitis or another infection. It supports normal hygiene rather than replacing it.

The noncomedogenic formula makes it a reasonable option for skin that clogs easily, and it contains soothing ingredients like bisabolol and dimethicone. Some sensitive skin can still react to the cooling agent, the botanical extracts or the antiseptic. Check the ingredients for anything you know you react to, test a small area first, and stop if redness or irritation lasts.

Lait 50 is not an alcohol-based after-shave and not an exfoliating acid treatment. Most of its cooling comes from menthyl lactate rather than the high alcohol content of a traditional after-shave splash. The label actually warns against using it with products that contain acids. Ingredient lists differ between Finipil products, so check the package of the one you have.

Finipil was developed for care after waxing, shaving, Nufree and electrolysis. Skin right after laser treatment can be sensitive to cooling agents, botanical ingredients and antiseptics. Use it only if your laser provider confirms it is fine for your treatment, and follow the clinic’s aftercare instructions first.

Finipil’s antiseptic products carry over-the-counter drug labeling that is listed in DailyMed, the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s database. The active ingredient, benzethonium chloride 0.2%, is identified there as an antiseptic. That is not the same as the FDA individually approving Finipil or reviewing every marketing claim. Drug listing and registration are different from FDA approval. Use it according to its labeled directions and warnings.

Equibal Labs, an American company known for professional hair removal and skin care. It also makes Nufree Nudesse, a hair removal system used in salons and spas. Normajean Fusco founded Equibal Labs in 1984, and Finipil was originally created as the aftercare step for Nufree treatments.

Yes. Equibal Labs manufactures Finipil in the United States, including Lait 50, Pro/Elec and the men’s products. Some Finipil packaging also states that the products are not tested on animals. For details on a specific formula, check the label on that product.

It depends on how much skin you cover and how often. A 1.5 oz (about 44 ml) tube lasts much longer when it is only going on the upper lip or bikini line than when it goes on both legs every day. Spread it thin rather than piling it on. If you use it on large areas or for clients, the 4 oz and 8 oz sizes mean fewer reorders.

Buy Finipil Antiseptic Cream

Lait 50 if it is for you, Pro/Elec if it is for your clients, Men Only if you shave your face or body. Put it on right after hair removal, keep using a thin layer daily, and the week after a wax gets a lot more comfortable.
